Passport: A valid passport is required by all persons traveling to and from Costa Rica.To obtain a passport, visit the Department of State website.

Departure Tax: You will need $28/person for a departure tax. You can buy a stamp at the airport when departing so plan a little bit of extra time at the airport as this line can get long at busy departure times. It's best to have the exact cash as change is given in Colones and credit card transactions are treated as a cash advance with corresponding fees.  This fee is sometimes included in the airline ticket, so it's best to check with your airline when you arrive at the airport to depart.

Currency: The official currency of Costa Rica is the Colon, but the American dollar is typically accepted in most of the areas frequented by tourists.
