Medical Studies Abroad

Who are we? 

We are a continuing education company that offers Continuing Medical Education credits (CME's, & CEU's) in fabulous vacation destinations to help satisfy continuing education requirements for hard-working physicians and nurses.

What do we offer?
We currently offer conferences to teach basic, intermediate and advanced medical Spanish language skills in a classroom and assist students to implement the usage of these skills with native Spanish speakers in an immersion setting.  These one week classes are offered in CME and CEU formats.  We are actively pursuing acquiring accreditation for dental and legal professionals in the near future.
What do you receive for attending?
Participants will  join in an interactive classroom setting to learn and reveiw the basics of the Spanish language.  They will then have the opportunity to attend mock clinics where they will simulate patient to caregiver interaction.  Additionally,  the staff at the resorts are asked to communicate with participants as much as possible in Spanish so that the lessons are reinforced on an ongoing basis.  By the end of the week, your Spanish language skills will improve and you will feel more confident in asking medical questions and understanding the answers your patients give to you.  This course is accredited by the University of North Texas Health Science Center, Office of PACE.  Please see the Course Description page for more details.
Where are we headed?
In the future, Medical Studies Abroad will be offering a variety of non-traditional Continuing Medical Education courses in both domestic and international locations.  Topics being explored include practice management, financial principles for physicians, and certain "cutting-edge" subspecialty topics such as regional anesthesiology.

  • About Dr. Nelson

    Dr. Nelson began formulating the idea for Medical Studies Abroad from his own difficulties in finding the time to improve his Spanish language skills during his busy practice week. He wanted an inviting location in which to learn Spanish and practice it while in a native Spanish-speaking environment. He joined with Gustavo Artaza, who owns other educational businesses in Costa Rica, to form Medical Studies Abroad. Now with world class, luxury accommodations, physicians, nurses and soon other healthcare professionals can earn CME's and CEU's while improving their knowledge of Spanish with a special emphasis on healthcare related topics.
